I have torn down and rebuilt this site several times over the years.
And in so doing, I've decided to remove old and outdated articles.
I don't seem to get around to writing often, but when I do, it's
usually about faith or politics.

I wrote this reflection on July 4, 2019 a week after my wife and I spent time in our nation's capitol and surrounding areas. In addition to DC we visited incredible sites in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. We took in the majesty of these locations, making sure that their importance in the founding of the United States of America is not lost on us.

A number of years ago, I heard the term "slacktivist" for the first time. It refers to a person who only complains about social issues online or who only carries a sign at some protest about an issue, but doesn't actually understand the issue or make life changes in support of the issue. You know the kind: a college student who complains about capitalism while using their new iPhone or simply living their life among the fruits of such a system; or a vegetarian who does not want animals to be killed, not understanding the numbers of animals that must be killed in order to grow their vegetables.

There was a time when words meant what they meant. Now, in 2024, we're allowing our society to not only change the fundamental meanings of words in our language, but we're also bowing to their criticisms of those of us who disagree. I'll offer a few examples.
